White Ash Pedestal Dining Table

This 55″ circular white ash table top is supported by a curved plywood pedestal that slides apart to allow the installation of leaves that extend the top to an eight-foot oval. The top and base are bleached and grain-filled to a creamy white.The round pedestal halves are fabricated from bent plywood which has been sponge-painted to harmonize with the client’s chair upholstery and dining room décor.

One of the biggest challenges was in the alignment of the two halves of the base when it was repeatedly opened and closed. The two halves open and close with a minimum of resistance using felt glides that slide easily on the room’s hardwood floors. (Shown here with one leaf installed).
